Homemade Instant Pot Applesauce is so easy to make and can be used as an ingredient in lot’s of different ways when it comes to creating Paleo meals.

Forget everything you’ve ever disliked about store-bought applesauce. This homemade applesauce recipe tastes like the inside of an apple pie!

Applesauce is very easy to make and requires just a few basic ingredients. In it’s most basic form, you’ll need apples, water and cinnamon for some autumnal spice. You could even add other warming spices like ginger, nutmeg or clove.

I occasionally add a sweetener, but it is not required to have great taste. When it comes to apples, the natural flavor is hard to beat!  Add a little water to your apples and Tada! You have the best applesauce ever!!

Different Methods for Making Applesauce

1. Crockpot – Using a crockpot is probably one of the most popular ways to make applesauce. You peel and de-core the apple. Cut it in slices and fill your crockpot full.  Then add 1/2 cup of water  to make sure the apples don’t stick to the bottom and to help thin out the applesauce. Note: The more water you add the thinner the applesauce. Once the apples and water are in the crock pot, add cinnamon, nutmeg or clove to add the autumnal flavor. You can also add you sweetener.  This step is optional depending on your taste. For sweetener, I do not use plain sugar. You can use coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey to naturally add that sweetener and keep this recipe Paleo.
2. Oven – You will find those who are keen on using old methods of cooking will make their applesauce in the oven. You peel and de-core the apple. Cut your apples in slices and place in a bowl.  You can sprinkle your cinnamon, nutmeg or clove to add the autumnal flavor. You can also add you sweetener.  This step is optional depending on your taste. For sweetener, I do not use plain sugar. You can use coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey to naturally add that sweetener and keep this recipe Paleo. Add about 2 Tbsp. water and stir apples, water, sweetener and seasoning until it is evenly coated. Spread on a cookie sheet and place in the oven. Once apples are cooked, you place back in the bowl, add water for desired consistency and mash.
3. Instant pot or pressure cooker- My favorite method and most recommend way to make your applesauce. Not to mention it offers less mess than the other two methods mentioned above.

Uses for Homemade Applesauce

  • Serve it on ice cream like it’s an apple crisp.
  • Pile homemade applesauce onto toast with almond or peanut butter.
  • Swirl it into your oatmeal.
  • Layer applesauce between yogurt and granola for an apple parfait and people go wild.
