The internet is full of Authentic guacamole recipes, some claiming to have mastered this dish. For years I whipped up this delicious side and it was always based off of recipes I would find online. Half of my family is Puerto Rican, you would think I would know how to make it. It was until I volunteered one Christmas to bring the chips and guacamole that I found out I was doing it all wrong. As my family laughed at what I thought to be the best guacamole around, they informed me that even thought it was delicious, it was not authentic.
Does authentic guacamole have tomato?
The answer is NO. Authentic guacamole is not made with tomato. In Mexico, where guacamole originated, tomato is not added to this dish. It is made with fresh, quality ingredients to offer the best flavor.

Easy Guacamole recipe using fresh ingredients for an authentic taste!
Ingredients
- 4 jumbo avocados
- 1/4 cup red onions chopped
- 1 Jalapeno diced
- 1 clove garlic finely chopped
- 1/4 cup cilantro chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt to taste
- juice and zest of one lime
Instructions
- Mash avocados and stir in remaining ingredients. Serve with chips or sliced veggies AND of course on top of your favorite taco.
