Hi, I’m Tara

My name is Tara and I’m the face behind this blog. I am a wife of nine years, mom of three kiddos and our oldest daughter lives with type one diabetes. My story is probably like a lot of other families when it comes to living with someone that battles type one. Our daughter is 8 and was diagnosed when she was 3. It wasn’t long after she was diagnosed, that I started to realize the huge impact that food was going to have on her quality of life.

After lots of research and coming across tons of diets that “claimed” to manage diabetes, I realized it wasn’t a diet that was going to change her quality of life, but creating a life-long outlook on how we look at food. I say we, because we couldn’t expect her to be the only one that would make changes, but we needed to show each other that it was the right thing to do, not just for her, but for all of us!

I look back to five years ago and my husband would have been considered overweight, as would I. As a mom of three small kiddos, my breakfast and lunch consisted of coffee throughout the day, definitely a Mountain Dew at some point and  loading the kids into the car and grabbing fast food, because I didn’t know how to cook or even really wanted to. If a day came where I did cook lunch, it was all processed  for the kids and a bag of chips for myself. I was tired all the time, I was gaining weight like it was my job. My hormones were all over the place, my skin was dry and irritated and the list goes on and on.

It was easy to say it was because I had young kids, but then I came across the Paleo Lifestyle…

I slowly started to research the Paleo Lifestyle and how specific foods work in the body. It was unlike any “diet” I had come across.

Five years later,  my daughter has an amazing A1C and feels great! We ALL feel great!! This blog started so share what I was learning about food and autoimmune diseases. I love to share recipes and tips to managing diabetes in a healthy way.
